I keep coming back for more

Cathy at Kittling books provided a much-needed warm and fuzzy start to my day this morning when she awarded me one of her inaugural I keep coming back for more awards. It’s Cathy’s very own blog award and

Is for a blog you just can’t stay away from. If you’ve been busier than a one-armed paperhanger with the hives and your Google reader is over 1,000 unread posts, these are the blogs that you single out to read. These are the ones that are never victims to the dreaded Mark All As Read. There may be many different reasons why you can’t stay away: a taste in books that mirrors your own, the same sense of humor, always knowing the latest in the book world… for whatever the reason, these blogs are flat out addictive and you have no wish to be cured!

As often happens with my strangely wired brain I spent the first moments after seeing I had been honoured with this award pondering the plight of a one-armed paperhanger with hives (how did she lose her hand? where did she contract hives from? where does a paperhanger hang their paper or is it an American term I should know that means something mundane? why doesn’t she have a prosthesis?) before realising that I had perhaps missed the point.

However I am chuffed to know that Cathy would find time to come to my blog even if she were so encumbered with life’s problems (but I am glad for her sake that she isn’t) (at least I don’t think she is) (I suppose it would be impolite to inquire?). And because Cathy is full of wisdom and goodness and general Cathy-ness she has made her award the opposite of onerous. There is no burden placed upon recipients at all.  As a recipient of her award I don’t have to link back to Cathy or pass the award on or send my bank account number to a de-identified hotmail address in Nigeria. All I have to do is bask in the warmness and fuzziness of being appreciated. Which, in a world in which little seems to happen without the expectation of something in return, is a very lovely thing indeed.

And so I shall. Bask that is.

As for paying it forward. Hmmmm.

I use Google reader too (I tried to use something else in some kind of Naomi Klein-style anti-big business stance but you know something – Google are the biggest because they are the best) and have a Make Time folder with about 20 feeds in it. These are the blog posts I always read even if it might take me a day or three to get to them. I have a Waste Time folder with about 200 feeds in it which are fairly regularly subjected to the mark all as read treatment. Cathy’s blog is in the Make Time folder, as is Kerrie’s (another lucky recipient of Cathy’s inaugural award) and between them they have already given the I Keep Coming Back for More award to nearly half the blogs whose feeds are in my Make Time folder. So I’ll pay the award on to those blogs that are in my Make Time folder, haven’t already been rewarded and aren’t feeds from mainstream media.

As per Cathy’s instructions the listed recipients (who are listed in alphabetical order) should follow the very simple rules below

The rules for the recipients are simple:

  • Enjoy the award. If you don’t want to put it on your blog, don’t. Just get the warm, fuzzy feeling that I’m sending your way!
  • You don’t have to reveal any deep, dark secrets about yourself or answer any sort of questions. You’ve already earned it!
  • You don’t have to link back to me.
  • You don’t have to give it to anyone else.

Wow!! Thanks so much! I’m so honored that you passed this award on to me. It’s one of the coolest ones out there. And I’m a huge fan of Cathy’s too!

I’ll blog about this in the next day or so. Thanks so much again! (And I visit you on a regular basis, too!)
